About

The Bootleg Book Club was born from the reading circle of sisters and an aunt. They all loved reading and were able to share that with each other by passing books back and forth. As they shared the same copy of a book, they joked about how frugal they were. The first official Bootleg Book Club pick was Crazy Rich Asians. During the summer of 2018 when three sisters were home together they intentionally chose to read Crazy Rich Asians together as a way to reconnect.

As three vibrant women who were living their  lives, it had been a while since they were all physically close to one another. Despite the variety in their interest, skills, and passions they were able to come together to talk about books.

When the youngest sister planned  to read a book for the summer her sisters and aunt decided to join her. However, when it came time to buy the book, they laughed knowing they would just pass around the same book as they had done in the past. That summer they embraced their bootleg ways and makeshift book club as they waited to discuss the book all together. At the end of the summer they were able to come together to discuss their thoughts, ideas, and opinions on the book. As women with different experiences and in different stages of their lives it was exciting to hear a diverse set of perspectives on the book, how to read, where to read and more. It was quite fun as they shared laughs and loving memories. They even had the chance to watch a film adaptation of the book before they all went their separate ways at the end of the summer.

Now, Felicia Jacques (Youngest) and Sam Jacques (Oldest) want to create new memories as they expand their Bootleg Book Club community. Felicia and Sam are eager to cultivate a space where they have dynamic conversations about reading and book related topics to encourage other readers to keep on reading.
